January 30, 2022  Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Luke 4:21-30

Jesus returned to Nazareth where he had lived as a child and learned the skills of a carpenter. While he was there, he went to the temple and began to read from the scriptures.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, open our ears to hear the Good News of God’s love.  Increase our faith and love for you.  We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Activity:  Imagine you are a carpenter.  Draw a picture or what you would make if you were a carpenter.  Would you need help? If so from whom.

January 23, 2022  Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21

Sometimes when we hurt ourselves, we realize just how often we use the particular par of our body.  Today St Paul reminds us that one body is made up of many parts and that all of these are important in their own way.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you call each one of us to belong to one people, the family of God. Help us, together with our brothers and sisters, share your love with the world. Amen.

Activity:  Which part of your body do you think works the hardest.  Which part of your body works the least.  Imagine that you didn’t have those two parts of your body.  What would your life be like?

January 16, 2022  Second Sunday in Ordinary Time John 2:1-12

A miracle is a sign of God’s power and glory, a remarkable and amazing event that cannot be explained.  Today we hear how Jesus performed his first miracle by changingwater into wine.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to turn to you in times of difficulty and place our trust in your goodness and love. Amen.

Activity:  Draw a picture in the shape of a water jug. Inside the jug, write a little prayer asking Jesus to help you when you are in a difficult situation.

January 9, 2022  The Baptism of the Lord  Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

Today we hear how Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the River Jordan.  This was part of God’s plan.  The story reminds us of our own baptism, when God’s spirit became a living spring in each one of us.

Prayer: In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Dear Jesus, accept our sign of the cross as our prayer to you. It reminds us that through our baptism we belong to you, and are children of God.  Let all who are baptized walk in the light of Christ. Amen.

Activity:  Talk about your baptism with your family. Look at all the pictures of your baptism if you still have your baptismal candle, have your mom or dad light it at meal time.

January 2, 2022  Feast of the Epiphany Matthew 2:1-12

The three wise men were not Jews.  They came from lands far to the East and were astrologers who used the stars to guide them on their journey. They also knew of the prophecies of an infant king to be born, a savior.  Through them, his arrival was announced to the world.  Jesus, the saving Lord, has come not just for the Jews but for all people.

Prayer: Like the three wise men, we are here today to worship you, Jesus.  We have no gold, but we give you our love.  We have no frankincese, we give your our prayers.  We have no myrrh, so we give you ourselves.  Amen.

Activity:  Sing as a family, We three kings.
